Make a bag that makes a difference for a girl in Zambia
As we approach September and National Sewing Month, we’re excited to bring the bag making community together for a special opportunity to sew, connect, and pay it forward.
On Wednesday, September 30, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. EDT, Simply Classic will be co-hosting a free Pay-It-Forward Sew Along for the bag making community. During this virtual event, we’re inviting participants to dig into their fabric stash and make a bag in support of Sew Powerful, an incredible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization making a meaningful difference in the lives of girls in Zambia.
After all, we are incredibly fortunate to have access to the resources and opportunities we enjoy, and this event is a wonderful way to pay it forward! Together, we can help young women pursue their education and reach their full potential no matter where they are in the world.
If you’re not familiar with Sew Powerful, their mission is truly inspiring. By providing girls with reusable menstrual hygiene solutions, made possible through specially designed purses sewn by volunteers, they help girls remain in school throughout the month rather than missing school because of their menstrual cycle.

Join the Zoom on September 30. We will complete our bags together during the live Sew Along.

Participants will be asked to mail their finished bags to Sew Powerful or bring it to a drop-off location on this list.
We've also invited some other co-hosts to participate. Depending on the number of co-hosts and participants, we may create breakout rooms so that each co-host has an opportunity to answer questions and connect with participants in a smaller setting. We will announce the co-hosts as they are confirmed.
